Flexible Energy Position Report
Understanding Your Energy Contract
The Flex Position Report provides visibility of your energy contract, hedging position, achieved prices and trading activity through the Zenergi customer portal.
Rather than relying on separately prepared spreadsheets or presentations, you can access your available position reporting online and review the latest information as market pricing data is updated.
The report helps you understand how much of your energy requirements have been secured, what remains exposed to future market prices and how your achieved prices compare with current market conditions.
How to access the report
- Log in to the Zenergi customer portal.
- Navigate to the Report Library and select the Flexible Energy Position Report tile.
- Open the report for your contract to view your position and performance information.
The report is available to eligible flex customers once their reporting has been configured. If you cannot see the tile, contact your Client Partner or email us at AskUs@zenergi.co.uk .
What's included in the report?
1. Contract summary
The summary provides an overview of your portfolio and the contract period covered by the report.
Where available, relevant contract signature or acceptance dates may also be displayed.
2. Portfolio value and hedging position
The portfolio chart illustrates how your portfolio value has changed over time and highlights purchasing activity.
It also shows the relationship between your contracted volume and the proportion of your requirements that has been hedged.
What is hedging?
Hedging is the process of securing energy volumes at agreed prices ahead of delivery. Under a flex purchasing arrangement, purchases can be made at different times rather than securing the entire requirement in one transaction.
The chart helps you understand how your position has developed as purchases have been made.
3. Monthly hedging position
The monthly position chart shows information including:
- Hedged volume: The volume secured through purchases.
- Open volume: The remaining volume that has not yet been hedged.
- Weighted average price: The average price achieved across the relevant purchases, weighted by volume.
This information helps you understand how your purchasing position varies across the contract period.
An open position means that some of your future energy requirements remain exposed to subsequent market movements. This creates an opportunity for future purchasing decisions, but also means prices and costs may change.
4. Contract performance
Performance charts compare market prices with the prices achieved for your portfolio across selected periods:
- The next two months.
- The next quarter.
- The next season.
Where relevant trading activity has taken place, the charts also indicate purchasing activity within those periods.
These comparisons help you assess how your achieved prices relate to current market conditions.
Important: A current market price is a reference point, not necessarily the price you would pay for all remaining energy requirements. The comparison should be considered alongside your existing purchases, open volume and contract arrangements.
5. Monthly commodity costs
The monthly position table provides a detailed breakdown of your energy position, including:
- Monthly volume requirements.
- Volumes purchased and remaining exposure.
- Traded prices and weighted average prices.
- Estimated monthly commodity costs.
This provides a more detailed view of your position throughout the contract period.
Estimated commodity costs are not the same as your final invoice amounts. Actual costs will vary based on your contract terms, consumption and your non-commodity charges (taxes, levies and cost of getting energy to your sites).
6. Transaction history
The transaction section provides details of trading activity, including the volumes purchased and the prices achieved.
This allows you to review the transactions recorded against your portfolio and provides greater transparency over purchasing activity.
Understanding your hedging position
Three key measures can help you interpret the report.
| Measure | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Hedged volume | How much of your energy requirement has been secured through purchases. |
| Open volume | How much of your requirement remains exposed to future purchasing decisions and market movements. |
| Weighted average price | The average price achieved across the relevant purchased volumes, weighted by volume. |
These measures should be considered together. A high hedged percentage means more of the relevant volume has been secured, but it does not automatically mean the overall contract will be cheaper. Equally, a lower hedged percentage does not automatically indicate poor performance.
Your position needs to be considered in the context of your contract, consumption requirements, purchasing strategy and the prevailing market.
How often is the report updated?
The report is designed to refresh once daily as latest pricing information becomes available.
This means you can access updated position and pricing information without waiting for a manually prepared report. The information displayed will reflect the latest data available to the reporting system.

Frequently asked questions
Why can't I see the Flex Position Report tile?
The report is available to eligible flex customers once their reporting has been configured. If you cannot see the tile, contact your Zenergi representative.
Does a lower achieved price than today's market price mean my contract is performing well?
It can be a useful indicator, but it does not tell the whole story. Your overall position also depends on the volumes purchased, the prices achieved across those purchases, remaining exposure and your contract arrangements.
What does open volume mean?
Open volume is the portion of your relevant energy requirement that has not yet been hedged. Its eventual purchasing cost will depend on future purchasing decisions and the prices available when purchases are made.
Can I see individual trades?
Yes. The transaction history provides details of recorded trading activity, including traded volumes and prices.
Are the estimated commodity costs the same as my final bill?
No. The report shows estimated commodity costs only, covering the energy you have purchased and your remaining exposure to market prices. Your final bill will also include non-commodity charges, such as taxes, levies and the costs of transporting energy to your sites. Actual charges will also depend on your consumption and contract terms, so the estimated commodity costs represent only part of your total energy bill.
Can I use the report to predict future energy prices?
The report includes market data and forward prices that can help you understand current market expectations. However, future prices are uncertain, and forward prices are not guaranteed purchasing prices.
